Networking November Brings Squamish and Whistler to Habitat in Ucluelet

hiking trails florentia bay

November was not for mustaches but for networking at Habitat. The goal was to bring good friends together to do what they do best and discover new places and meet new people. This month’s HABITAT-ants where Ugo, Troy, Matt and Connor from Squamish and Whistler. Thanks for visiting us and contributing to the place and the vibe. It’s the vibe really 😉

A Real Barn Builder in Ucluelet

There was a Sea to Sky to Sea connection this month as two absolute legends Ugo and Troy made the trek to Ucluelet despite a busted tranny to eat, drink, surf and absolutely NAIL it! As business partners in All Mountain Contracting in Squamish and Whistler, they clearly love what they do as they volunteered to help with the work on the barn. Their knowledge and skills were much appreciated and the Ha’barn’tat made another leap toward completion for early 2018. The weather and waves were great that weekend and it was either the fresh air, hard work or comfy beds but the guys seemed to sleep great!

Ha’barn’tat at Habitat

Complete with a full bathroom and king bed in a rustic loft, the “Barn” at Habitat is a perfect place for people considering the coastal lifestyle or thinking about making a mini-home their castle. Why not try out tiny-living with someone you love and confirm the joys of the simple life. Less is more! Inquire now to hold your spot!

The Lost Boys Found Fun in Ucluelet

Ucluelet retreat: Sage smudge
Fresh sage smudge from Lillooet compliments of the Lost Boys. Stoked to cleanse the Habitat and keep the positive vibes flowing.

Networking November at Habitat ended with a bang as two of the Lost Boys (@lost.boys.retreats) tested out Habitat as a possible home-base for spring surfing, yoga and wellness retreats. Also from the Whistler area, Matt and Connor are both passionate and knowledgeable guys that appreciate challenging themselves in the outdoors and value mental and emotional wellness as much as physical fitness. Hanging out with them it was clear to me the ying and yang partnership that they have and how it would contribute to a great retreat experience.

Our conversation flowed through optimal eating, classic Australian cinema (The Castle, 1997) and the future of resort based recreation. I am stoked on the possibility of hosting their crew in 2018 and glad we could share some great weather and business dreams together.

PS: We also slayed waves and crushed burgers. I have included a few recipes from the weekend below.

Habitat Hack: Super Savory Burgers

tasty burger hack misoHere is a Habitat Hack for some super “tasty burgers“. Dice half a white onion and mix in a tablespoon of white miso paste and microwave until the onions are a little soft (75 seconds). Mix this into your meat mix (it helps if you use 50% beef and 50% pork especially if both are pasture raised from The Barons of Beef!) Season with pepper. HOLD the salt, miso is already salty. Leave covered in the fridge overnight. Fry burgers in a cast iron pan on medium high so a brown crust forms on the exterior and the middle is slightly pink and juicy. Consume with all the fixings especially Triple C Sauce…

Habitat Hack #2: Triple C Burger Sauce

This sauce is named after its three core ingredients, curry powder, chilli powder and crack. Well there isn’t really crack in it but this sauce is as addictive AF and it does have mayo in it which it equally tempting.

Triple C Sauce

  • 1/2 teaspoon of curry powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of chili powder
  • 3/4 cup mayo

Stir. Spread on burger buns or the outside of a grilled cheese before grilling.
